Storytime in the park

Irmo Mayor Bill Danielson and two other mayors are promoting summer reading among children this summer.

Storytime in the Park kicked off in Irmo on Tuesday, June 10, with Danielson reading three illustrated story books to a group of children in the Prisma Health Amphitheater at Moore Park.

Later this month the mayor of Lexington and the mayor of Chapin will hold story times in their municipalities. All three mayors will read aloud at the events through August.

“This was our first time at this and the kids had a great time,” said Danielson. “It’s so important that we support our children’s education in our communities and I look forward to the next reading.”

Danielson hopes that these sessions will promote literacy and community engagement in the coming months.

The next reading will be Tuesday, July 8 and then August 12. Moore Park is located at 7473 Church Street and the readings begin at 10:30am.
