Families gathered at Moore Park’s Prisma Health Amphitheater on a warm summer morning for “Storytime in the Park with Mayor Danielson,” a free event that celebrated reading and community fun.
The event, held earlier this week, provided young children with engaging stories and summertime treats. Attendees enjoyed refreshing Kona Ice, courtesy of Palmetto Citizens Federal Credit Union, helping everyone beat the South Carolina heat.

Children received free books from the District 5 Foundation, with help from Dr. Matt from Midlands Family Chiropractic and Irmo Town Councilwoman Dr. Barb Waldman. Wellhaven Home Care also contributed by providing coloring sheets for the children to enjoy.

The Lexington County Library was on hand to sign up children (and their parents) for library cards and distributed handheld fans to keep everyone cool. Representatives from Lexington-Richland School District Five shared information about the district’s magnet programs and gave away fun promotional items.
Organizers were pleased with the turnout and enthusiasm of the families who came out to participate.
“We had a wonderful morning celebrating the joy of reading with our community,” said Mayor Danielson. “It was great to see so many families come together to support literacy and enjoy time outdoors.”
The next Storytime in the Park is scheduled for Monday, August 12 at 10:30 a.m. at the same location. The event is free and open to the public.
