StoryWalk to premiere at Irmo community garden

A StoryWalk will open at the Green Iceberg Community Garden at Rawls Creek Park in Irmo this Saturday, May 20, from 11 am to 1 pm.

The even will feature free ice treats, giveaways, and outdoor reading.

Visitors will read the illustrated story “Planting a Rainbow” by Lois Ehlert as they walk to each of the 16 reading stations along the trail. StoryWalk is a free activity for Irmo residents accessible during regular park hours.

StoryWalk is an educational activity that places a children’s storybook along a walking route in the community. It helps inspire and build children’s and adults’ reading while encouraging healthy outdoor activity.

The StoryWalk is funded by the Ivy Heritage Foundation and Irmo Music Academy.

StoryWalk was created by Anne Ferguson of Montpelier, Vermont, and developed in collaboration with the Kellogg-Hubbard Library.

The event is being presented by the Ivy Heritage Foundation of Irmo, Inc., in partnership with Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. Upsilon Omega Omega Chapter, the Town of Irmo, and community volunteers.
