For the third straight year, Irmo is off to a 3-0 start.
After close victories against defending Class 3A champion Oceanside Collegiate and J.F. Byrnes, the Yellow Jackets dominated Butler (N.C.) 42-14 last Friday at W.C. Hawkins Stadium.
A week after leaving the game against the Rebels early with an injury, All-State defensive lineman Jaiden Bryant returned with a vengeance. He accounted for the Yellow Jackets’ first two touchdowns, including an interception return for a score.
Irmo scored 35 unanswered points to open the game. Wide receiver Maleek Miller, quarterback Dre’von Dopson and Airport transfer Jay Eaddy each added a touchdown.
On Saturday, Dopson announced on social media his plans to graduate in December. He had the logos of 15 colleges posted on the announcement, including North Carolina State, South Carolina State, Benedict, Newberry, Hampton and Johnson C. Smith.
Irmo returns home Friday to face Carolina Forest (2-0).
Former Yellow Jacket starts for South Carolina

It was back in 2009 when Alshon Jeffery caught his first collegiate touchdown for the University of South Carolina against South Carolina State.
This past Saturday, Jeffery’s cousin and freshman wide receiver Donovan Murph looked for a similar memorable moment against the Bulldogs at Williams-Brice Stadium.
The former Irmo standout got the start. His first reception took place in the second quarter for 27 yards. He finished with three catches for 39 yards.
