Town Admin to Leave

Town Administrator Courtney Dennis to Step Down After 23 Years of Service to the Town of Irmo

After more than two decades of dedicated public service, Town Administrator Courtney Dennis has announced his resignation from the Town of Irmo, effective July 3, 2025. Dennis is departing to accept a new opportunity in the private sector.

Dennis shared the news with the Irmo Town Council last week, marking the end of a distinguished career in municipal service that began in 2001. He was unanimously appointed as Town Administrator in 2021 following a long and respected tenure with the Irmo Police Department, where he served in various roles including Patrol, Investigations, and Administration. “I’ll miss working with the community,” said Dennis. “The town’s council and staff is remarkable and a pleasure to work for.”

In 2020, Dennis was appointed as the 32nd Chief of Police and led the department through the COVID-19 pandemic, helping to further instill the department’s core values of Integrity, Professionalism, and Dependability.

As Town Administrator, Dennis played a key role in several transformative projects for Irmo. He spearheaded the Town’s rebranding initiative, which introduced updated imagery and signage throughout the community, and oversaw the successful completion of Rawls Creek Park—a multi-use recreational space that features a community garden, skate park, and dog park in the New Friarsgate area. He also helped launch the planning and development of Irmo’s new Town Hall, a major capital project set to be completed in 2026.

“Courtney has been a pillar of our town government,” said Mayor Bill Danielson. “His leadership, vision, and steady hand have helped move Irmo forward, and his presence will be deeply missed. We are grateful for all he has done and wish him continued success in the next chapter of his career.”

The Irmo Town Council will begin the search for a new Town Administrator in the coming weeks.

“I’m excited about where the town is right now and where it is heading,” Courtney said. “I’m just sorry I’m not going to be a part of it.”
