The road in front of Irmo Elementary recently had a name change. Town of Irmo changed the name of Dustin Johnson Road back to its original names of Gibbes Street and Lexington Avenue.
“The name was changed without a formal resolution being passed which is our town code,” said Courtney Dennis, Irmo Town Administrator. “Without it we can’t send an official request for a new name.”
Mapping identification services which include first responders would not have the correct information until all the steps were followed for a name change.
The school also serves as a polling place so proper addressing is essential.
“The council can revisit the idea at anytime,” Dennis said.
