Irmo Town Councilman Erik Sickinger, 42, has been arrested for sexual conduct with a minor. He has been charged with three different counts of Criminal Sexual Conduct with a minor younger than 16, second degree; and three counts of Contributing to the Delinquency of a Minor. He was arrested by the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department and South Carolina Law Enforcement Division in the late afternoon on March 4 and taken to the Lexington County
Detention Center. “The Irmo Police Department had no involvement whatsoever in SLED’s investigation of his arrest,” said Irmo Police Chief Bobby Dale.
At press time for the New Irmo News, Town Administrator Courtney Dennis said “we were just made aware of this situation and we will have a statement soon.”

The Town of Irmo is aware that Councilmember Erik Sickinger was arrested by agents of the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED) Tuesday afternoon. The Town has been informed that he was taken to the Lexington County Detention Center and that the charges against him are unrelated to his role as a council member.
As this is an active law enforcement matter, the Town will not be providing any further comment. All inquiries should be directed to SLED. (end release)
Sickinger was elected to town council in November 2020 and was named Mayor Pro-Tem in 2023. A person is guilty of criminal sexual conduct with a minor in the second degree if: The perpetrator engages in sexual battery with a victim who is 14 years old or less but who is at least 11 years of old; or the perpetrator engages in sexual battery with a victim who is at least 14 years old but who is less than 16 and is in a position of authority to coerce the victim to submit or is older than the victim. Criminal sexual conduct in the second degree is a felony punishable by imprisonment for not more than twenty years according to the discretion of the court.
