American Fishing Tour Championship Returns to Lake Murray in 2025

Lake Murray, S.C. – The American Bass Anglers (ABA) 2024 American Fishing Tour Championship will cast off at Lake Murray from May 3–9, 2025, at Dreher Island State Park in Prosperity. Originally scheduled for fall 2024, the event was postponed due to the effects of Hurricane Helene, but it’s coming back with even more excitement in store.

This year marks a special milestone as the championship returns to Lake Murray 25 years after it hosted the very first ABA National Championship in 2000. The event is presented by the Capital City/Lake Murray Country Regional Tourism Board and is expected to draw the top weekend anglers from across the nation.

Public Invited to Attend
Fans and fishing enthusiasts are invited to attend the three official competition days, May 7–9, where anglers will launch at safe daylight from Dreher Island. Public weigh-ins will be held:

  • Wednesday, May 7 @ 3 p.m.

  • Thursday, May 8 @ 3 p.m.

  • Friday, May 9 (Championship Day) @ 2 p.m.

Dreher Island State Park admission is required:

  • $3 for adults

  • $1.50 for seniors (65+)

  • $1 for children ages 6–15

Big Boys BBQ will also be onsite to keep attendees fueled with mouthwatering food.

What’s at Stake
The top-performing anglers will compete for cash prizes, with the champion walking away with a brand new Caymas boat powered by a Mercury Marine outboard, complete with T-H Marine components. Additional honors include the Angler of the Year (AOY) title and awards for members of the ABA Service Teams, recognizing top performers from military branches and other categories like Lady Anglers and Non-Military competitors.
