COLUMBIA, S.C. — After five years of dedicated leadership, Amy Splittgerber is stepping down as Executive Director of Healthy Learners, the organization announced this week.
Since joining in 2019, Splittgerber has overseen significant growth in the nonprofit’s mission to eliminate health-related barriers to learning for children across South Carolina. Under her direction, Healthy Learners provided 68,644 healthcare services to 15,269 students statewide — a period marked by both expansion and resilience through the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic.
“Amy has led Healthy Learners with energy and concern for our mission,” said Sister Nancy Hendershot, a founding member. “She consistently encouraged initiative and supported staff in carrying out our mission to remove health barriers for children in need.”
Splittgerber is credited with launching a comprehensive strategic plan that prioritized community engagement, resource allocation, and access to care. One of her most impactful initiatives was securing funding that doubled the organization’s operational capacity, including the addition of Spanish-speaking staff to improve outreach and service equity for Hispanic families.
Donna Waites, President of the Sisters of Charity Foundation of South Carolina, will serve as interim executive director as the board begins the search for new leadership.
Healthy Learners is a ministry of the Sisters of Charity Health System and continues to serve school-aged children who lack access to health care. For more information, visit healthylearners.com.
