Bill Danielson is not a politician. Just ask him. He will tell you that he is a family man first, a businessman second and now a representative for the people of Irmo. Not a politician.
Danielson is the managing partner/owner of Datapay Payroll, a successful full-service payroll company in the Midlands. Prior to that position he and a partner formed a business advisory group that headed major construction and financing in Columbia and surrounding areas.
And now, as Mayor of the Town of Irmo, that knowledge and experience is crucial in helping Irmo grow.
Bill won a special election in 2019 when a seated councilman became mayor. He served for one year to fill that vacancy and then won his own seat in 2021.
While on the Town Council, he hired a private company to handle all construction permitting and inspections, that had once been done by Lexington County at a much higher cost, creating lower fees, improved customer service and a profit for the town.
Bill pushed successfully to increase the budget requirements to improve pay for our first responders and to retain their service to the community.
The pressure he has applied to Blue Granite Water Company has led them to improve their system and do extensive repairs and replacements to degraded areas of the system.
He helped create an organization designed to improve Irmo in many ways which included assisting local businesses with grants to overcome the pandemic-driven hardships.
The corporation seeks private funds to help beautify the local area and is a true public/private partnership.
Mayor Danielson is working with local and state legislators along with utility companies, state agencies and the Governor’s office to address issues concerning local roads, water and sewer billing and broadband service to the Irmo community.
Bill is a USC/Aiken Graduate and has been in business for more than 30 years. He was appointed by Governor Nikki Haley to represent the 2nd Congressional District on the SC Commission of Disabilities and Special Needs. He has served as a board member of many organizations including the Babcock Center, Greater Irmo Chamber of Commerce, Glenforest School and the SC Philharmonic. He has always been active in the community and has made and will continue to be available to all citizens.
Bill has had governmental training by the Municipal Association of South Carolina.
He has completed both the entry and advanced-level programs being the only elected official in the Town of Irmo to ever have completed this task.
Bill is married to his wife Peggy and they have two children and one grandchild.
“I will continue to bring a business approach to our Council and Town Hall,” said Mayor Danielson.
There is much for us to do and as a community, together, we can continue our journey to improve the Town of Irmo and its surrounding communities.”
Bill Danielson is mayor-elect of Irmo and will be sworn in on Tuesday, December 5 during the Irmo Town Council meeting held at 7 pm.
The Irmo Town Council meetings are held at the Irmo Municipal Building located at 1239 Columbia Avenue in Irmo.
