Broad River Road widening project to begin early 2025

Richland County held a public meeting on Thursday, April 27 at Dutch Fork Elementary located on Broad River Road in Irmo to discuss the upcoming widening of US 76/176 or Broad River Road.

The proposed widening would begin at Royal Tower Drive and end near Dutch Fork Road which is where the road splits near Tractor Supply. The section of roadway would be expanded from two lanes to five lanes (four travel lanes and a center turn lane). Drainage and intersection improvements are part of the project throughout the corridor including removing acres of trees next to Royal Tower and bordering homes on Charing Cross Rd. Engineering consultants and project staff were on hand to answer questions from local residents.

Much of the property along the corridor has not yet been acquired by the county and acquisitions for these properties will begin soon. Comments will be accepted through May 12 and can be sent to Richland County Transportation Penny Department, 2000 Hampton St. Columbia, SC 29204 or emailed to [email protected].
