Irmo Chamber of Commerce Teacher and Student of the Month for September are Amanda Parker and Ashton Smyers from Irmo Elementary School.
“Amanda Parker is our current Teacher of the Year,” Principal Shannon Fincannon said. “She is an extraordinary teacher with a servant’s heart. She makes everyone she meets feel loved and supported. She is always searching for how she can be better and do better for her students. She encourages them to be positive risk takers and then builds on those strengths. She ensures that each child feels seen, heard, safe and loved. Her colleagues love and students love her and we are so happy that she is a member of the Heart of the Hive.”
Fincannon said, “Ashton is a fifth grader at our school. She comes from a family of light shiners. She has learned from her family that all people deserve love and kindness. She is a world changer and she gives love to others by stopping to give a smile or say hello to everyone in her path. She always stretches out a hand to assist and her work ethic is second to none. We are so proud of Ashton in all areas, but we’re especially proud of her passion for helping others and making them feel special.”
