Chapin Elementary School will temporarily shift all students from in-person instruction to virtual learning

The health and safety of our students and staff remain School District Five’s first priority. Chapin Elementary School is currently experiencing a high number of students and staff impacted by COVID-19 isolation and quarantine. As a result, Chapin Elementary School will temporarily shift all students from in-person instruction to virtual learning beginning Wednesday, January 12, 2022. Students are scheduled to return to school to resume in-person instruction on Tuesday, January 18, 2022.

Students should log on to their Google Classroom accounts every day at 8:00 am for synchronous (face-to-face) learning with their teachers.

Extracurricular activities including school-related clubs, activities, and events will resume when students return to in-person learning on Tuesday, January 18, 2022.

School District Five Student Nutrition Services will distribute meals at the front of the school from 11:00-12:00 each day of virtual learning. Meals are free to all students.

If your student is currently isolated or quarantined, this shift does not impact the length of the isolation or quarantine period specified by the school nurse. Before students return to school, families should consult the Symptom Screening Checklist to ensure it is appropriate to return. Students and staff should also continue to social distance when possible, wear masks, and use proper hand hygiene in order to help mitigate the spread of COVID-19.

School District Five did not make this decision lightly, as a shift in the instructional model impacts all families. District Administration has made this decision based on the school’s ability to provide effective instruction, safety, and supervision for all students.
