Chester Leroy Gibson, 82, of Irmo, passed away peacefully at 5:30 a.m. Tuesday, November 7, 2023, at home in the arms of his loving wife.
Leroy was born August 28, 1941, to Lester and Bridget (Huges) Gibson. He was an educator, a coach, a painter, a woodworking teacher, and started and ran his own business for 32 years with the franchise Grease Monkey. He was very involved in the Chamber of Commerce, small business association, and a member of the Lions Club. Leroy was a member of Salem United Methodist Church and he had a solid and strong faith in God. He loved gardening and working outside with flowers. His passion was for his family, especially for his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Mary Ann (Lemke) Gibson, whom he married September 1, 1962; Three Daughters, Beth Ann (Bill) Addison of Irmo, South Carolina; Becky (Phil) Carter of Irmo, South Carolina; Brenda Gibson (Darrell Scherschel) of Antigo, Wisconsin; one adopted son Roy Jenkins; one brother, Eddie Gibson (Helen) of Washington Indiana; grandchildren Carolann (Douglas) Long, Shelby Addison, Josh (Marissa) Carter, Christina (Chandler) New, Amber (Michael) Petroskey, Amanda Charlesworth (Jordan Aylsworth), and Jackson Charlesworth (Lexie Schroeder); and six great grand-children Parker, London, Elizabeth, Elias, Carter, & Evan. He is preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers, Dale and Tom Gibson.
The family would like to thank his wonderful caregivers Mary, Regina, Taylor, and many others for all the love and support they have given and they have truly become part of the family. The funeral will be at 3:30 pm Sunday at Salem United Methodist Church, with Pastor Jeff Childress officiating. Visitation is from 2 to 3 p.m. preceding the funeral.
