Church offering information on sex trafficking October 22

As part of its ongoing series of community workshops, McGregor Presbyterian Church is partnering with Lighthouse for Life to present Sex Trafficking 101, a foundational training designed to educate community members about the realities of sex trafficking and empower them to recognize, prevent, and respond to exploitation.

The training will take place October 22 from 6-7 pm at McGregor Presbyterian Church, located at 6505 St. Andrews Road, Columbia.

Sex Trafficking 101 equips participants with critical awareness about what sex trafficking is, how it operates, who is vulnerable, and the tactics traffickers use to recruit and control victims through force, fraud, and coercion. Participants will also learn how to recognize warning signs, understand the long-term impact of trauma on survivors, and take practical steps to help prevent trafficking in their communities.

The training also addresses common misconceptions about trafficking and explores related issues such as online exploitation, sextortion, and the role of pornography in exploitation. Attendees will leave with practical knowledge and resources to support prevention efforts and respond appropriately when concerns arise.

Human trafficking affects communities of every size, and education is one of the most powerful tools to prevent exploitation.

Lighthouse for Life’s mission is to eradicate human trafficking by educating communities and empowering survivors. In addition to prevention education, the organization provides survivor support services for adult female survivors and operates Karis Home, a safe house for minor female survivors.

McGregor Presbyterian Church is at 6505 St. Andrews Road, Columbia.

Cost is free, but preregistration is requested. RSVP to [email protected] or call the church office at 803-781-2391.
