Congratulations to election winners

Open Letter

Dear Editor,

I would like to first congratulate all of the candidates on their recent campaign run. Heartfelt congratulations go out to Bill Danielson, Erik Sickinger and Phyllis Coleman on winning their elections. I truly believe Bill Danielson will take Irmo in a new direction for the betterment of all residents, regardless of the residence in which they reside.

One candidate, who lost his election due to not receiving enough votes mentioned that he never was or wanted to be a politician, made a reference to another candidate’s residence, that it “should have been condemned and torn down.” I feel that comment was hateful and disrespectful to say, especially coming from someone with many years of community service as a former Irmo Firefighter and a local Police Officer. I did not recall observing any of the candidate’s residences on the election ballot.

Are we now voting on a candidate’s residence? I am assuming that each candidate should reside in a three-bedroom, two-bathroom residence in Friarsgate. Former Irmo councilman Kelly Busch said it best. “Please don’t be enticed by negativity you may have seen, and instead seek out and vote for the great qualities you desire in a representative”. The voters have spoken. Let’s all move forward and prepare to support our town’s new Mayor and all council members. In the words of Bill Danielson, “Let’s build a brighter future for Irmo together.”

Sincerely,

Lawrence Coleman
