Irmo Town Councilman Erik Sickinger has been appointed to the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) Intergovernmental Advisory Committee (IAC). This prestigious role was announced by FCC Chairwoman Jessica Rosenworcel, who recently revealed the new members of the Intergovernmental Advisory Committee.
The Intergovernmental Advisory Committee serves as a crucial platform, offering guidance, expertise, and recommendations to the FCC on telecommunications issues that impact local, county, state, and Tribal governments. Comprising elected officials from various governmental levels, the committee plays a pivotal role in shaping policies that address the diverse needs of communities.
Sickinger expressed gratitude for his appointment, stating, “I’m grateful to have been appointed to the FCC’s Intergovernmental Advisory Committee (IAC) to improve broadband access, continue the fight against unwanted spam calls, and amplify the issues and challenges faced by communities like Irmo.”
The reauthorization of the IAC was recently announced by the Commission, which sought nominations for membership to the committee. The IAC operates for a two-year term and is an official advisory committee with members appointed by the Chairwoman. Together, they provide recommendations to the Commission on matters related to broadband services deployment and adoption.
“I am excited to see the Town of Irmo be represented at the federal level,” Sickinger remarked. “I will represent our community with the state leaders from SC, NC, DC, and MI, and leaders from local governments like San Antonio TX, Portland OR, Palm Beach County FL, and Pasadena CA.”
Chairwoman Rosenworcel praised the diverse perspectives the Committee members bring, stating, “These local, county, state, and Tribal leaders offer the Commission valuable perspectives on how we can work together to connect the American people. I thank the Committee members for their willingness to serve, and I look forward to their input.”
The inaugural meeting of the Intergovernmental Advisory Committee is scheduled for April 18, 2024. This marks a significant milestone for Councilman Sickinger and underscores Irmo’s representation at the federal level in shaping telecommunications policies.
