CVETS Offers Free Emergency Care for Law Enforcement K9s
COLUMBIA, S.C. — In a show of appreciation for law enforcement service dogs, CVETS (Columbia Veterinary Emergency Trauma and Specialty) has launched a new program offering free emergency and specialty veterinary care for K9s injured in the line of duty.
The initiative, now in effect, ensures that working dogs serving in local law enforcement agencies will receive top-tier medical attention at no cost, should they be hurt while protecting the public.
“These dogs put their lives on the line every day, and they deserve the very best care in return,” said Dr. Mike Schlicksup, CVETS cofounder and CEO. “Offering this care at no cost is a small gesture compared to the loyalty and service they provide.”
Dr. Tracy Schlicksup, cofounder, added, “This is about more than just medicine — it’s about gratitude. These animals are heroes, and we’re proud to stand behind them and the teams they serve with.”
Richland County Sheriff Leon Lott praised the veterinary team, saying, “CVETS has been there for our K9s in the most critical times. They have provided for the medical needs of our K9s without hesitation. They really do care.”
From sniffing out danger to comforting victims and helping in search and rescue operations, working dogs are a vital part of public safety. CVETS’ new program ensures these K9s receive the urgent care they need, when they need it most.
