IRMO – Lexington-Richland School District Five has named veteran educator Jinni Friend as Director of Special Services.
“I am beyond thrilled and grateful for the opportunity to continue serving our district in this role,” Friend said. “Supporting students and families, especially those with disabilities, is at the heart of my commitment to this district. Together, we will work to ensure every student has the resources, support, and opportunities they need to thrive. The path ahead is full of possibilities, and I am excited to make a positive impact with staff, students and families.”
Friend assumed the role of Special Services interim director after Dr. Angie Slatton became principal of Seven Oaks Elementary School. Prior to that position, she served as the Coordinator of Special Services. During her long career, she has served as an Autism Behavior Specialist and a Special Education Teacher in School District Five, Inman, SC and Woodbine, Georgia. Friend holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Special Education from Clemson University and a master’s degree in Education Administration and Supervision from Phoenix University. She is working on her Ph.D. in Special Education with an emphasis in policy, advocacy, and legal literacy from the University of South Carolina.
Chief of Academics Tina McCaskill said, “Mrs. Friend brings an incredible amount of passion, wealth of knowledge and extraordinary leadership to our district. She has a history of being a collaborative, supportive, and student-centered leader who will continue moving our Special Services program forward.”
