The school participated in the FBI Safe Online Surfing (SOS) Internet Challenge. The FBI-SOS program is a free, educational program for children that teaches cyber safety and helps them become better digital citizens in a fun and engaging way. Each month during the school year, the classes with the top exam scores nationwide receive an FBI-SOS certificate and may be congratulated in person by local FBI personnel. Chapin Intermediate won the Sharks category in the national challenge in April with an overall score of 90.02 percent.
Chapin Intermediate business teacher Michelle Isenhower said, “The Career and Technical Education (CTE) teachers at Chapin Intermediate strive to empower our students to make safe choices online, and the FBI Safe Online Surfing challenge gives us an opportunity to review those foundational skills that students use to protect themselves and their information in an online environment.”
The program, created for students in third through eighth grades, covers age-appropriate topics like cyberbullying, passwords, malware, social media, and more.
The SOS activities are open to anyone to explore. To participate in the testing and national competition, teachers must register their eligible classes.
