District Five Teacher Joins National Summer Learning Network

IRMO – CrossRoads Intermediate School science teacher Tabitha Boyd Collins was among about 125 educators from across the United States selected to attend the 2025 Discovery Educator Network Summer Institute (DENSI) in Chicago, Illinois.

DENSI is a unique, volunteer-driven professional learning experience that equips teachers with fresh ideas, digital tools, and a wider network of colleagues to help keep students engaged in learning.

“It was a valuable opportunity to connect and collaborate with educators from across the United States, fostering a sense of community and shared purpose,” Boyd Collins said. “I’m especially excited to use Canva in my classroom. It’s a tool that helps students develop skills in visual communication, design, and data visualization — skills they can use in both school and future careers. My students will be able to create unique and amazing presentations in science class.”

The institute’s sessions explored topics such as literacy, STEM, digital citizenship, and workforce readiness.

The Discovery Educator Network is a global community that connects educators across school systems and countries through social media, virtual events, and in-person gatherings, encouraging the exchange of ideas and best practices.

“At Discovery Education, we believe professional learning should be relevant, collaborative, and model innovative strategies that teachers can immediately bring to their classrooms,” said Jaime LaForgia, Senior Director of Professional Learning at Discovery Education.
