Dive into a Brighter Future: School’s New Partnership with the Local YMCA Offers Free Swim Lessons

In an exciting development that promises to make a significant splash in the Irmo community, Oak Pointe Elementary School has proudly announced its partnership with
the Northwest YMCA to provide free swim lessons to its students through a PoolCorp-funded grant. This innovative collaboration aims not only to teach essential water safety skills but also to promote physical fitness, personal development, and community engagement.

The partnership between Oak Pointe Elementary and the Northwest YMCA is a testament to the power of collaboration between educational institutions and community organizations. Recognizing the importance of water safety and the profound impact it can have on students’ lives, both organizations have joined forces to create this life-changing opportunity. In the words of Trisha Roland, a parent of participating students and YMCA personal trainer, “Swimming is a skill that is super important and you will forever have with you in your life. I am thrilled that my kids will participate in this program.”

“The success of our students inside and outside of the classroom is one of our top priorities”, says Principal Linard McCloud. “This new partnership with the Northwest YMCA is a perfect example of how we love and grow all of our students at The Best School Ever.”

In addition to highlighting the importance of water safety as a fundamental life skill, this
partnership also underscores the importance of community engagement. The local YMCA has been a pillar of our community for decades, providing a wide range of services and support to residents of all ages. By partnering with Oak Pointe Elementary, the YMCA reinforces its commitment to fostering a healthier, safer, and more connected community. “We are proud to see the children and families of Oak Pointe Elementary become a part of the YMCA,” said Northwest YMCA Director Anna Ross. “Together, we are growing our impact in the community through swim lessons, After School programming, and youth sports. We want to empower young people by providing the support they need to reach their potential. Better together!”

All participating families were invited to a kick-off celebration on Sunday, August 27th at the Northwest YMCA. Students had the opportunity to meet the swim instructors, tour the facility, and sign up for lessons on their skill level. Oak Pointe Elementary and the Northwest YMCA look forward to continuing this partnership and providing more opportunities for students to develop their physical fitness as well as critical life skills.
