Cultural Field Trip Brings Language and Tradition to Life
IRMO, S.C. – Eighth-grade Spanish I students from Dutch Fork Middle School recently attended a special Mexican folklórico dance performance as part of their ongoing cultural studies.
Under the guidance of their teacher Mia Wilkins, students had the opportunity to experience a live performance by ¡Itzel Folklórico México y La Danza Divina! — a celebrated troupe known for bringing traditional Mexican stories, music, and movement to life.
Folklórico dance is a vibrant art form that blends intricate choreography, colorful costumes, and live music to tell stories about the people, regions, and traditions of Mexico.
“This performance was an amazing way for students to connect what they’ve learned in class to real-world culture,” said Wilkins. “It helps them see that learning a language isn’t just about words — it’s about understanding people and traditions.”
The event provided students with a deeper appreciation of Mexican heritage, supporting the school’s mission to promote cultural awareness and global learning across all subjects.
