The holiday break saw at least one Lake Murray-based basketball team win a post-Christmas tournament title.
The Dutch Fork girls’ basketball team won the Cooperhead Classic at Catawba Ridge High School in Fort Mill. The Lady Silver Foxes defeated Palisades Athletics in Saturday’s final.
Michaela Fairwell was named All-Tournament MVP and Aaliyah Lee was named to the All-Tournament team.
Dutch Fork went 3-0 in the tournament, defeating South Pointe 62-37 in the opener and Marvin Ridge (North Carolina) 52-41 in the semifinal.
Meanwhile, the Dutch Fork boys’ basketball team were runner-up at the Bennie Bennett Memorial Tournament held at the Rock Hill Event Center.
The Silver Foxes opened with a 62-22 win over Mid-Carolina at Newberry High School. Tanner Poole scored 17 points, Jayden Walker had 13 points and Bryson Taylor finished with 10.
They returned to Newberry and routed the host team 56-46 in the semifinal. Taylor led Dutch Fork with 22 points and Jake Bogan had 10 points.
The final contest saw Taylor score a game-high 27 points in a 72-35 loss to Clover.
