Dutch Fork’s Bell to play in Carolinas Classic

By Thomas Grant Jr.

It was a good week for Dutch Fork senior forward Justus Bell.

On Wednesday, he was chosen to play in the Carolinas Classic for South Carolina. The contest, originally slated to take place at Catawba Ridge High School in Fort Mill, will be played March 21 at Dorman High School.

Two nights later, he scored a game-high 24 points to help the second-ranked Silver Foxes hold off Chapin 58-52. The win helped Dutch Fork (18-3, 5-1) rebound from last week’s home loss to archrival Irmo and maintain a one-game lead in the Region 4-5A standings.

Samajee Govan added 16 points and Caleb Garner had 10 for the Silver Foxes. They played host to White Knoll Tuesday before Friday’s road game at Lexington.

That upcoming rematch with the Lady Wildcats has even more significance for the Lady Silver Foxes. The two teams are tied for first place in the region and Friday’s winner could gain an upper hand in claiming the title.

Lexington won the first meeting 70-68 on Jan. 16 in Irmo. The Lady Silver Foxes rallied from 24 points down to tie the game, only to lose in the final seconds on two free throws by Bradi Goodrich.

Dutch Fork (135, 5-1) had won three of its last four games entering Tuesday’s game against White Knoll.
