Former Airport and USC Athlete Joins Cleveland Brown’s Coaching Staff

The coaching journey of former Airport High and University of South Carolina standout Duce Staley to another destination.

Staley was named the new running backs coach for the Cleveland Browns. Ironically, he replaces another former Palmetto State College running back Stump Mitchell, who was released from the team.

Staley takes over a Browns’ running game which finished 12th in the NFL despite losing Pro Bowl running back Nick Chubb to injury. In the playoff loss to Houston, Cleveland rushed for only 56 yards.

A two-time Super Bowl champion as a player and coach, Staley previously served as an assistant head coach and running backs coach with the Detroit Lions.

He’s coming off a brief tenure with the Carolina Panthers where he served in a similar position. Staley was fired along with head coach Frank Reich and quarterbacks coach Josh McCowan in November.
