Week 5 in the NFL ended in dramatic fashion thanks to Buffalo Bills’ placekicker Tyler Bass.
The former state champion at Dutch Fork connected on a 45-yard field goal in overtime to lift Buffalo to the 37-34 win over the Los Angeles Rams Monday night.
Bass had missed a PAT earlier in the game. The Bills also overcame a fumble in overtime by running back James Cook by blocking the Rams’ potential game-winning field goal.
Quarterback Josh Allen drove the Bills downfield in position to set up Bass’ second career game-winning field goal. His previous one took place in 2024 against the Miami Dolphins.
Bass is among the former Dutch Fork and Irmo High School players making an impact at the next level:

LB Jaylen Hinton (Catawba)
The senior linebacker is one of the leading tacklers in the South Atlantic Conference.
For the season, he has 54 total tackles and three pass deflections
In the 35-24 win over Wingate, Hinton had five tackles and his first career interception. In the 22-16 loss to Mars Hill, Hinton had a career-high 13 tackles.

WR Donovan Murph (South Carolina)
The former Yellow Jacket collected his third touchdown reception of the season in the 38-19 win over Florida. In 6 games, he has nine receptions for 191 yards.
Afterwards, head coach Shane Beamer praised Murph for his “positional flexibility”.
“Murph being able to play inside and outside just gives us a lot more flexibility,” Beamer said. “Murph can play outside, and we need those guys on the outside like Malik (Clark) and Lex (Cyrus) to continue to come along. But Murph also can go inside and then allow DJ and Nyck and Malik and Lex and those other guys, Nitro (Tuggle), whoever, to get reps on the outside.”

WR Antonio Williams (Washington Commanders)
The former Clemson All-American is having a productive rookie season. He has 15 catches for 155 yards and a touchdown and was named NFC Rookie of the Week earlier this season.
With Terry McLaurin out, Williams fully took over as the team’s No. two receiver. He had three receptions in the 27-27 tie.
NOTE: Former Dutch Fork wide receiver Jalin Hyatt, who was re-signed to the New York Giants’ practice squad after getting released this summer, was not added to the game roster.
