Economic & Tourism Impact: National Recognition: Ranked number one for water sports and number five for bass fishing in the U.S. by USA Today.

Revenue Generation: A single Major League Fishing event in February 2026 generated about $1.5M in economic impact.

Centennial Plans (2027): A week-long celebration in June 2027 featuring fireworks, historical documentaries, and a commemorative visitor guide featuring art by Michael Geddings. Community Projects & Logistics

Flagpole Installation: A new flagpole was installed at the Lake Murray sign (Highway 6 and 60) through a collaboration between Rotary, Dominion Energy, and the DOT. A formal flag-raising ceremony is scheduled for Thursday at 11 AM.

Bomb Island Conservation: Efforts are underway to address erosion on Bomb Island, the world’s largest sanctuary for Purple Martins (hosting 500k to 1M birds).

Safety Concerns: Discussion regarding boaters violating the 200-foot exclusion zone around the lake towers; enforcement remains a challenge for the DNR.

Lake Murry has a tremendous impact on your life. A good impact. Rotary can too.

Rotary clubs regularly invite community leaders, educators, and business professionals to share their expertise with members. These programs reflect Rotary’s commitment to lifelong learning, ethical leadership, and service above self.

The Rotary Club of Lake Murray-Irmo meets at 7:30 am on the first three Wednesdays of each month at the Irmo Chapin Recreation Commission. Visitors interested in fellowship, networking, and community service are always welcome.
