IRMO, SC – The Irmo Chili Cook-Off is spicing things up this year with a heartwarming addition: local potters will sell unique, handmade bowls and mugs during the event on January 25 at Moore Park. The fundraiser is part of the Empty Bowls movement, a global initiative by artists to combat hunger in their communities.
For $20, attendees can select a handcrafted bowl or mug and enjoy a pint of chili. Proceeds will support the McGregor Presbyterian Church Snack Pack Program, which provides weekend food packs to students in need at five Lexington-Richland School District Five schools.
“Last year, this event raised $2,000, thanks to the generous contributions of 37 potters who donated 135 bowls,” said a spokesperson for the program. “We hope to exceed that amount this year and continue helping local families.”
Call for Contributions
Potters and artists are encouraged to join the cause by donating handmade bowls or mugs. All pieces must be food-safe, attractive, and free of chips or cracks.
- Deadline for donations: January 18
- Contact: Email Tom at [email protected] with an estimate of your contribution.
All contributors will be recognized at the event, and any unsold items will be saved for future Empty Bowls events or similar causes.
