IRMO – On Thursday, September 5, 2024, Harbison West Elementary School Gifted and Talent Development Magnet hosted its “Grits for Grands” parent family engagement event, bringing together over 150 grandparents and students for a morning of food, fun, and connection. The event aimed to strengthen the bond between students and their grandparents while fostering a sense of community within the school.
The event featured a warm breakfast, with grits being the highlight, and other delicious items. Attendees filled the cafeteria, sharing stories, laughter, and creating lasting memories.
Harbison West principal Dr. Thomas Turner expressed his enthusiasm for the event, stating, “The Grits for Grands event is a beautiful opportunity for our students to connect with their grandparents and learn from their wisdom. It fosters strong family ties, encourages the sharing of traditions, and builds a supportive community within our school.”
