Irmo Chamber Names Student, Teacher of the Month

An outstanding student and educator from Irmo High School International School of the Arts have been recognized as Student and Teacher of the Month by the Greater Irmo Chamber of Commerce.

Makari Allen-Hendrix was named Student of the Month, while Amy Mew earned Teacher of the Month honors.

“Amy Mew is our amazing theater teacher. She is a magnet for all students who all love her because she is a role model for everyone,” Principal Dr. Kaaren Hampton said. “Her passion for theater is infectious. She loves what she does and we could not ask for a better theater teacher at Irmo High School.”

Hampton also praised Allen-Hendrix for his leadership and well-rounded achievements.

“Makari Allen-Hendrix is a strong and quiet leader. He is a triple threat. In the classroom he exemplifies and maintains a strong academic performance. He is also a star athlete and pushing himself and his teammates to do their very best. He is also our senior class president and leads with a plan that benefits his peers. We are going to miss the strong leadership he brings to Irmo High.”

The monthly recognition highlights students and educators who demonstrate excellence, leadership and a meaningful impact within the school community.
