Irmo Chamber of Commerce Mourns Passing of Founding President Chuck Larsen

The Greater Irmo Chamber of Commerce is mourning the loss of its founding President, Chuck Larsen, who passed away yesterday at the age of 96 after a brief illness. Larsen was a pivotal figure in the Chamber’s history, serving as its first Executive Director from its inception in 1994 until 2011, when he transitioned to the honorary role of President Emeritus.

Known for his unwavering dedication, Larsen rarely missed a Chamber meeting, even in his later years. His passion for community building and fostering relationships was evident in his active participation and leadership within the Chamber. He was honored last September at the organization’s 30th Anniversary celebration, where his contributions to the Chamber’s success were celebrated.

“Chuck truly lived an incredible life and paved the way for the success of the Irmo Chamber. It was an honor to know him, and his legacy will continue to inspire us,” said Chamber officials in a statement.

“It is with a heavy heart that I mourn my friend and colleague Charles “Chuck” Larsen.  Chuck passed on Sunday January 5th.  Having known Chuck for over three decades I can honestly say we have lost a great community leader and one of Irmo’s greatest business advocates.  As President, founder and CEO of the Greater Irmo Chamber of Commerce for decades Chuck defined the term business builder, networker and most especially, friend. As Mayor of Irmo, I will truly miss his leadership, guidance and advice”.

Mayor of Irmo, and past Chairmen of the Board, Bill Danielson.

Kirk Luther, Publisher of the New Irmo News and past Chairman of the Board had this to say about Chuck’s passing,

“Chuck Larsen and I shared a friendship long before he became the recognizable leader of the Greater Irmo Chamber of Commerce. His boundless enthusiasm and vibrant energy left a lasting impact on everyone he encountered, and the mark he made on all of us will endure for lifetimes.”

“Chuck’s impact on Irmo is immeasurable. He will be missed for sure!” said Nathan Ballentine.

The Greater Irmo Chamber of Commerce was officially chartered in July 1994, evolving from the Irmo Business Association (IBA). The organization’s roots trace back to meetings held at Capri’s Italian Restaurant in the Kroger Shopping Center on St. Andrews Road. At its inception, the IBA had nearly 70 members, and by the end of its first year as the Greater Irmo Chamber of Commerce, membership had grown to 170.
