The Town of Irmo Council unanimously decided that ARPA (American Rescue Plan Act) funds would allow the Town of Irmo to provide funding for economic relief to businesses and nonprofit organizations that support town residents and the community.
“These businesses have been investing in the Town of Irmo for decades,” said Councilman Kelly Busch. “By providing aid in their time of need we ensure our business community stays strong for decades to come.”
Looking to the future, the Board of IFGC is excited to focus on positive efforts to support the business community and beautify the Town of Irmo to benefit all parties.
Irmo business owner and member of the IFGC, Beach Loveland, says, “Both short term and long-term efforts are in play for preserving, identifying and promoting key economic growth opportunities unique to the Town of Irmo while encouraging and serving local businesses for the enrichment of our Community”
About IFGC
IFGC, a 501c3 body independent of the Town of Irmo, was originally founded by a unanimous decision of Council in 2020 to provide economic relief to businesses damaged by the pandemic. Over the course of time, as it became clear the Town of Irmo would receive ARPA relief funds over $5 million, the decision was unanimously made by the whole of Council and the IFGC Board to provide grants to businesses in town, with the IFGC responsible for determining grant amounts.
On receipt of grant applications, all businesses which satisfied the criteria (in-town, had an Irmo business license, existed prior to shutdowns, and had a revenue loss) were considered for a grant. Any applications received after the closure of the awards was denied. Board members recused themselves on any application which represented a potential conflict of interest.
