Irmo High School Celebrates 10th Annual Goodwill Brunch with Record Attendance

IRMO — Irmo High School marked a milestone Dec. 5 by hosting its 10th Annual Goodwill Brunch, celebrating senior members of the community with the largest turnout in the event’s history.

The annual brunch, hosted by the Irmo High School Student Council and supported by the Irmo-Chapin Recreation Commission (ICRC), brought together students, faculty and local seniors for a morning focused on service, entertainment and holiday spirit.

Guests were welcomed into a Winter Wonderland–themed setting and treated to a student-served brunch, along with performances by Irmo High School’s performing arts programs. Senior pianist Baylie Batchelor provided live music, while the Irmo Middle School Choir, directed by Christopher Moore, performed holiday selections. Members of AFJROTC, Student Ambassadors and FCCLA also assisted in coordinating and supporting the event.

Principal Dr. Kaaren Hampton praised the collaborative effort and record attendance. “This year’s attendance was our largest yet,” Hampton said. “Thank you to our performing arts department teachers and students and to Student Council for your teamwork and hard work in making the event so special. It was also wonderful to see the Irmo Middle Chorus join us and add to the celebration.”

For students, the Goodwill Brunch represents a meaningful opportunity to connect with and serve the community. Student Body President Logan Rice described the event as a highlight of her leadership experience.

“We shared food, laughter, watched amazing performances, and made real connections with so many seniors and their families,” Rice said. “Seeing twice the turnout from last year meant so much, but when someone hugged me and said, ‘I am so proud of you,’ I felt that every bit of hard work was worth it.”

Senior dancer Addison Courtney also reflected on the tradition’s impact. “As a performer, there is something special about getting on stage to spread holiday cheer with the seniors in our community,” she said. “Goodwill Brunch has always been one of my favorite traditions at Irmo.”

For sophomore Jabari Johnson, the event held personal significance as he attended alongside his grandfather. “I do not get to see him very often, mostly just on weekends, so having him spend the morning with me was heartwarming,” Johnson said. “He does not usually take time away from work, so I wanted him to enjoy a fun morning and a little time off.”

Now in its 10th year, the Goodwill Brunch continues to be a signature event for Irmo High School, highlighting the school’s commitment to service, community partnerships and meaningful student engagement. The continued collaboration with the Irmo-Chapin Recreation Commission remains central to the event’s success.
