Irmo Hosts Earth Day Appliance Recycling Event with Junk King

In celebration of Earth Day, the Town of Irmo partnered with Junk King of Columbia to host a small appliance recycling event on Tuesday, April 22 at Moore Park. The event ran from noon to 4 p.m. and provided residents with a free, convenient way to responsibly dispose of old or unused electronics and small household appliances.

Items accepted included everything from coffee makers and toaster ovens to guitar amps, desktop computers, printers, laptops, and microwaves. The goal: keeping these common electronics out of landfills and encouraging sustainable disposal practices.

Junk King, a national franchise that began in California in 2010, now boasts 170 locations and nearly 600 trucks across the country. The Irmo-based branch played host for this local effort, continuing their mission of eco-friendly junk removal and responsible recycling.

Operations Manager Lizzie Johnson was on-site, lending a hand with moving equipment and answering questions from residents about Junk King’s services. “Events like this give us a chance to educate people while also making it easy for them to do the right thing,” Johnson said.
