At the Greater Irmo Chamber of Commerce’s monthly meeting on Wednesday, August 14th, Irmo Mayor Bill Danielson delivered an impassioned speech, acknowledging the unwavering support of his wife, Peg, during his recent trials and tribulations. Danielson then shifted focus to the challenges of keeping Irmo vital and “on track” in today’s economy.
The mayor highlighted several town accomplishments he is particularly proud of, including the installation of a new town clock, the development plans for a new town hall, and, most notably, the First Responder Memorial located beside the police station.
Following Danielson’s remarks, the town introduced a new comprehensive plan aimed at guiding Irmo’s future development. “The ultimate goal is to establish a set of guidelines,” said Doug Polen, Assistant Town Administrator. “We are instructed by state law to reevaluate our plan every five years.”
The new plan outlines areas that could potentially be incorporated into the current town limits, although no immediate actions are being taken in that regard. Irmo Town Administrator Courtney Dennis added, “Growth is imminent, but with the right plans, it can be managed to most everyone’s satisfaction.”
