Irmo Officers Receive Life Saving Award

On August 7th, 2022, Corporal Charles Black and Patrolman Vincent Silano responded to a shooting incident. Upon arrival, officers located a victim with a gunshot wound to the leg that was bleeding profusely. Officers assisted by applying a tourniquet to the victim’s leg which stopped the bleeding while E.M.S. responded. The victim was transported to the hospital and survived the incident. E.R. doctors advised officers that had the tourniquet not been applied, the victim would have most likely bled out at the scene and died. Recognizing through body-worn camera footage of the quick response of these officers, and their going within and beyond the scope of their duty, Chief Dale is recognizing Black & Silano with the Life Saving Award.

“The officers’ quick response, equipped with proper tools and reliable training all contributed to saving this person’s life,” said Chief Dale. “We are very fortunate to have dependable and well-trained officers in Irmo and this is just one incident that displayed their heroism.”
