After a pause due to Hurricane Helene and the COVID-19 pandemic, the Irmo Okra Strut finally celebrated its milestone 50th festival on September 26 and 27.
What began decades ago as a fundraiser by the Lake Murray–Irmo Woman’s Club to support a new library has grown into a two-day celebration. The festival now features a Friday night street dance, Saturday morning parade, arts and crafts, rides and amusements, live music, and plenty of festival food.

The Okra Strut draws an average of 25,000 attendees each year. Proceeds are reinvested into the Irmo community through scholarships, civic projects, and support for local schools and organizations.
Hosted by the Town of Irmo and managed by the Okra Strut Commission, the festival continues to highlight community spirit while celebrating half a century of tradition. Admission remains free.
