On Tuesday, December 19th, the Irmo Town Council took the opportunity to recognize the outstanding contributions of the Irmo Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Division and the exemplary leadership of Sergeant Kelly Mountzouros during their December 2023 Council Meeting.
The Criminal Investigations Division received a commendation for its unwavering dedication to excellence in preparing thorough and meticulous cases for prosecutors. The division’s collaborative efforts with numerous Local, State, and Federal Agencies have not only strengthened partnerships but have also significantly contributed to upholding the Town of Irmo’s core values of Integrity, Professionalism, and Dependability.
The exceptional leadership of Sergeant Kelly Mountzouros, who heads the Division, was highlighted for her remarkable role in the aftermath of an ATM Robbery at First Citizens Bank on August 19, 2022. As the lead investigator, Sergeant Mountzouros conducted comprehensive interviews, collected crucial evidence, and oversaw various meticulous tasks that ultimately led to the successful resolution of the case.
Sergeant Mountzouros’s thorough case file played a pivotal role in collaboration with the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), resulting in the suspect pleading guilty and receiving a 116-month incarceration sentence. Chief Dale expressed immense pride in the accomplishments of the Criminal Investigations Division and Sergeant Mountzouros, emphasizing that their hard work, dedication, attention to detail, and partnerships with various law enforcement agencies have collectively ensured the safety of citizens and businesses within the Town of Irmo.
