The Clemson defensive lineman commit was one of five standout seniors in the running for the Palmetto State’s top individual football honor.

Rounding out the list of finalists are quarterback Xavier Means (Northwestern) and running backs Tre Seguerra (J.F. Byrnes), Kendaris Bailey (Gaffney) and Jayven Williams (Summerville).

The winner will be named at halftime of the Touchstone Energy Cooperatives Bowl set for December 12 at Doug Shaw Stadium in Myrtle Beach. He seeks to join running back Matthew Colburn (2013) as a ‘Mr. South Carolina Football’ winner.

Wuerth has played the past two seasons in Irmo after transferring from Aquinas High School in Augusta, Ga. In helping the Silver Foxes finish 9-0 during the regular season, Wuerth has posted 56 tackles (20 for loss) and 12 sacks.

He and quarterback Jaxon Knotts were selected to play in the Shrine Bowl set for December 19 at Spartanburg High School.
