Jeanna Locklair named new principal of Harbison West Elementary

District Five has named Jeanna Locklair as the new principal of Harbison Elementary School Gifted and Talent Development Magnet. She will replace Dr. Thomas Turner who is leaving at the end of the school year.

“I am honored to have been chosen as the next dedicated leader at Harbison West,” Locklair said. “It is truly a special place where students, staff, and families come together to learn, grow, and support one another. I am excited to serve this community and to build on the strong foundation already in place so every child, family, and staff member can succeed. Thank you to Dr Ross, D5’s Board of Trustees, our supportive District Office, and the remarkable staff at HWES for entrusting me to lead this next chapter in our journey. I am humbled to become an honorable hedgehog and I can’t wait for all of us to shine, together.”

Locklair currently serves the district as coordinator of Academic Assistance, Gifted Programs & Professional Development. Prior to that position she served as assistant principal of instruction at Irmo Middle School and an assistant principal at CrossRoads Intermediate School. She also served as an eighth grade ELA teacher at Fork Mill Middle, Dutch Fork Middle and Irmo Middle. Locklair holds a Bachelor of Arts and Science in Middle Level Education from Winthrop University and a Master’s degree in Education from the University of South Carolina.

“We are excited to welcome Mrs. Locklair as the new principal of Harbison West Elementary School,” Chief of Academics Tina McCaskill said. “She brings a strong commitment to academic excellence and a passion for supporting both students and staff. Her leadership will build on the school’s success and continue to foster a positive, student-centered learning environment where every child can thrive
