Lake Murray-Irmo Woman’s Club Names 2025 Scholarship Winners

Irmo, SC – The Lake Murray-Irmo Woman’s Club (LMIWC) honored its 2025 female scholarship recipients, Hollis Head of Dutch Fork High School and Baxley Baker of Irmo High School, during a special presentation held April 29 in the Irmo Branch Library Garden.

Each student was awarded a $2,000 scholarship, made possible this year through a Progress Foundation Grant from the South Carolina Federation of Women’s Clubs. Typically funded by proceeds from fried okra sales during the Irmo Okra Strut, the scholarships were supported by grant money after the 2024 festival was canceled due to Hurricane Helene.

The LMIWC, a member of the General Federation of Women’s Clubs, has a long history of community support and advocacy. Founded in 1959, the club launched the first Okra Strut in 1974 to raise money for a branch library in Irmo—a mission it continues to support to this day.

Scholarships for male recipients are awarded separately by the Okra Strut Commission, with both organizations working together each year to recognize outstanding seniors from Dutch Fork and Irmo High Schools.
