Lake Murray Sports Roundup

The Chapin softball team were a victory away from playing for a spot in the Class 5A finals.

Instead, the Lady Eagles found themselves needing three wins to reach that goal. On Monday, they were shut out 2-0 by Summerville in the winner’s bracket of the Lower State final.

Starting pitcher Ansley Bennett hit a one-out triple in the first inning and scored on a Hope Chase single. She then held the Lady Eagles to five hits in seven scoreless innings.
Summerville added a run in the fifth inning off one of three errors committed by Chapin.

For the Lady Eagles to get a rematch with the Lady Green Wave Friday in the Lower State final, it needed to first defeat St. James at home Wednesday in an elimination game.
