Lake Sweep Nets Over 15,000 Pounds of Trash
Keep the Midlands Beautiful (KMB) led a successful Lake Sweep/River Sweep on September 20, 2025, removing more than 15,170 pounds of litter, recyclables, and bulky debris from Lake Murray and nearby waterways. The cleanup is part of South Carolina’s annual Beach Sweep/River Sweep initiative.
More than 330 volunteers participated across Richland and Lexington counties, including dive teams, kayakers, boaters, and land-based volunteers. Over 30 event partners supported the effort, such as PalmettoPride, Dominion Energy, Lexington County Solid Waste Management, and Keep Newberry County Beautiful.
KMB also maintains the Adopt-a-Waterway program, sponsored in part by Dominion Energy, which encourages groups to clean local waterways at least twice a year for two years and receive public recognition for their service.
