The Lexington County Museum has received two generous grants to help preserve history and share it with the community.
A grant from the Richard Hampton Jenrette Foundation will assist with the upkeep of the museum’s 30 historic structures and the care of its extensive collection. Founded in 1993 by businessman and philanthropist Richard Hampton Jenrette, the foundation’s mission is to promote education, innovation, and stewardship in historic preservation, decorative arts, and historic landscapes.
Dominion Energy also awarded the museum a grant to purchase supplies for its educational programs. Offered free to children’s groups, these hands-on activities teach young people about the rich history of Lexington County and the Dutch Fork in a fun and interactive way.
Founded in 1970, the Lexington County Museum tells the story of the county from the colonial period through the Civil War. Visitors can explore historic buildings and see locally made artifacts such as furniture, textiles, weapons, and pottery.
The museum extends its thanks to the Richard Hampton Jenrette Foundation and Dominion Energy for their support in keeping local history alive for future generations.
