Lieutenant Governor to address media and guests at forthcoming SC7 event

The South Carolina Seven (SC7) Expedition will host its first-of-the-year press event announcing SC7 sponsors, ambassadors, and other key pieces of information about this year’s SC7 Expedition. The press event will be held in the lobby of the South Carolina State House, Wednesday, May 24, at 10:00 a.m.

Lt. Governor Pamela S. Evette will be the featured speaker.

Sponsors to be formally announced include SC7’s Presenting sponsor Duke Energy. SC7’s Health and Wellness sponsors include the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) and Blue Cross Blue Shield (BCBS) of South Carolina. The S.C. Department of Parks, Recreation and Tourism (SCPRT) is SC7’s Ecotourism sponsor.

“We think it’s important to work alongside community partners to ensure the natural beauty of South Carolina can be enjoyed by generations to come,” says Mike Callahan, state president of Duke Energy South Carolina. “Duke Energy is proud to be the lead sponsor of the SC7 expedition and its statewide focus on protecting, restoring and building resiliency in our natural environments and local communities.”

Dr. Susan L. Johnson, director of Heath Promotion at MUSC, is encouraged by the increasing interest in SC7 and the expedition’s growing number of partnerships.

“Recognizing the connection between human health, well-being, and the natural environment, MUSC welcomes the opportunity to join forces with BlueCross BlueShield of South Carolina as this year’s SC7 Health and Wellness Sponsor,” says Johnson. “We believe in the importance of prioritizing the value of nature in health, healing and quality of life and we are proud to partner with SC7 in their efforts to raise awareness of our state’s natural treasures and encourage all South Carolinians, young and old, to actively explore them.”

SC7 will also announce seven expedition ambassadors, including Evette; S.C. Senators Thomas Alexander and Mike Reichenbach; S.C. Rep. Max T. Hyde, Jr.; Mount Pleasant Mayor Will Haynie; WACH FOX News Director Lena Sadiwskyj; and Maj. Gen. (Ret.) William F. Grimsley, U.S. Army.

“The SC7 ambassadors, through professional and personal networking, are expanding awareness of what our great state has to offer through this fourth-annual SC7 Expedi-tion,” says SC7’s Dr. Tom Mullikin, noted global expedition leader, attorney, retired military officer, and chair of the S.C. Floodwater Commission. “And our generous sponsors are quite literally the lifeblood of SC7.”

Duke Energy, MUSC, BCBS, and SCPRT have all supported previous SC7 expeditions.

SC7 is a monthlong expedition beginning in July that involves a growing number of volunteers and outdoor enthusiasts, young and not-so-young – hiking, climbing, ka-yaking, rafting, and SCUBA diving – across S.C. from the mountains to sea exploring S.C.’s seven named wonders and various on-trail and off-trail excursions in between.
