Irmo Little League (ILL) baseball and softball teams are into the all-star tournament season with local teams winning a place in the lineup of brackets throughout the competition.

In the Coaches Pitch Division, the Irmo Gold and Irmo Green teams played the District 3 tournament at Irmo’s home fields at Friarsgate Park along with Trenholm Blue, Trenholm Red, Mid-Carolina White and Mid-Carolina Black.

Mid-Carolina White won the tournament with Irmo Gold taking runner-up, and both teams advanced to the state tournament at Darlington last week. Of the 12 teams in competition, Northwood Blue won the state title with five wins and no losses.

Irmo Gold recorded three wins and two losses with victories against Union County, Darlington Purple and Greenwood, while taking a loss against Northwood Blue and Summerville Blue.

The Coaches Pitch Softball District 3 tournament was also played at Friarsgate Park with Irmo, Trenholm Red and Trenholm Blue competing. Each team played two games with Trenholm Blue finishing 2-0, Trenholm Red at 1-1 and Irmo 0-2.

Both Trenholm Little League teams advanced to the state tournament at Barrier Island Little League, and Trenholm Blue won the title going 4-0 for the tournament.

In baseball, the 8/9/10-year-old division also held their district tournament recently at Trenholm Park with Irmo Gold and Irmo Green in contention, along with Mid-Carolina and two Trenholm Little League teams.

This time it was Irmo Gold winning the District 3 tournament and Irmo Green taking runner-up. Both Irmo teams will represent District 3 when the state tournament gets underway at Northwood Little League in Taylors, SC on Friday.

Irmo Green is set to play its first game at 8 pm Friday against Barrier Island, and Irmo Gold will start at 10 am Saturday against Greenwood/Abbeville.
The tournament runs through June 30 when the winner of Pool A plays the winner of Pool B for the state title.

And in the softball 8/9/10 division there were two teams playing the district tournament at Trenholm Park, with Trenholm taking the win and Irmo taking runner-up.

The state tournament will also take place at Trenholm, with Florence, Irmo and Trenholm participating. Each team will play two games, one each against a tournament opponent, with the first one starting at 9 am, then a 10 am game, and then it wraps up with the 2 pm game; Irmo versus Trenholm.

Moving up in players’ age, other little league division teams are just starting tournament play or will very soon start. Action continues through July with the regionals at Warner Robbins, GA in early August for qualifying teams.
