McGregor Presbyterian Church in Irmo is delighted to announce the arrival of Dr. Sam Codington as its new reverend. Dr. Codington will officially begin his ministry on Sunday, February 2, 2025, with his first worship service at 11 a.m.
Dr. Codington, a Clinton, South Carolina native, grew up as the fourth of five children in a pastor’s family. He earned a degree in philosophy and religion from the University of South Carolina and continued his theological education at Fuller Theological Seminary in Pasadena, California.
After completing seminary, Dr. Codington returned to South Carolina, where he served as a hospital chaplain in Greenville and as a part-time pastor at two churches. Later, he became a pastor in Rocky Mount, North Carolina, where he partnered with the congregation to create a new park, establish a youth group, and launch a community center.
Dr. Codington also holds a Doctor of Ministry degree from the San Francisco Theological Seminary and is a published author.
Accompanying Dr. Codington to McGregor Presbyterian are his wife, Esther, and their elementary-aged son, Ezra.
McGregor Presbyterian Church is located at 6505 St. Andrews Road in Irmo. The church warmly invites everyone to join in welcoming Dr. Codington and his family during his inaugural service.
