Meet Irmo’s Artist of the Quarter, Kathryn Morganelli

Kathryn Morganelli’s lifelong dedication to the arts and community shines through her multifaceted journey. Starting with a passion for music, she now sings in the choir at Seven Oaks Presbyterian Church, where she served as an Elder for Worship after returning to South Carolina from two decades in Florida.

Kathryn’s artistic foundation began at USC, where she studied Art and English, later venturing into fashion illustration and commercial design with companies such as Newman Saylor and Gregory Advertising, USC Publications, and RLBryan Printing. Her career expanded to graphic consulting and paper industry sales across the Carolinas and Florida, eventually taking her to Valencia Community College’s Art Department in Orlando.

Beyond her artistic career, Kathryn’s compassion led her to found His Promise Ministries, a nonprofit that worked with AIDS orphans in Namibia and collaborated on projects for at-risk youth with partners like Thornwell Home for Children and artist Jonathan Green.

Her creative endeavors continued through children’s books and her current work, Bloom from the Dark into the Light, a book of over 90 pages of artwork paired with poetry. Now back in South Carolina, she actively supports the arts as a South Carolina Watermedia Society board member and leads events like the Newberry Plein Air for 2D artists.

Kathryn’s works are displayed at City Art in Columbia, Wood and Fabric Co. in Lexington, and the “With These Hands” gallery in Edisto Beach. She also honors her late husband’s legacy by supporting causes close to his heart, recently creating a piece for fallen firefighter James Michael Muller.
