NEWBERRY — Barbecue lovers from across the region are invited to gather for the return of Pork in the Park, a longtime community favorite celebrating Southern food, music, and family-friendly entertainment.
Held at Memorial Park, the annual event brings together pitmasters from across the Southeast to showcase their best barbecue in a competition sanctioned by the Southern Barbecue Network. The sanctioning raises the level of competition, drawing top talent and enhancing the quality of food available to attendees.
Visitors can expect a wide variety of barbecue styles and flavors, along with live music throughout the event. Organizers say the festival is designed to offer something for all ages, with inflatables and activities available for children.
Festivities begin Friday evening with BBQ & Bluegrass from 5 to 8 p.m., featuring live music by JD & The Marchers. The kickoff event sets the tone for a weekend centered around great food and community gathering.
Saturday shifts into Competition Day, running from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., as pitmasters compete in a barbecue showdown sanctioned by the Southern Barbecue Network. Attendees can sample a variety of barbecue styles while enjoying live entertainment from Podunk Ramblers.
In addition to the food and music, the event will feature beverages provided by Mad Max Taphouse.
Families can also explore the Kids Zone on Main Street, which will include inflatables, snacks, drinks, and treats from Pelicans SnoBalls.
Organizers encourage attendees to review the event map ahead of time to plan their visit and make the most of the weekend’s offerings.
With its blend of competition barbecue, live music, and activities for all ages, Pork in the Park continues to be a highlight of the spring season in Newberry.
